Retirement of Founder Chairman
Story posted 28 September 2010
The Trust's Founder Chairman, Sir Robin Gill KCVO, retired on 30 April 2010. Robin conceived the idea of the Trust in 1990 as a framework for an ambitious national programme of celebration - and thanks for her years of service - to mark the 40th anniversary, in 1992, of The Queen's accession to the throne. He subsequently developed the concept of the Prizes scheme, securing the approval of the Palace and all-party support in Parliament. As Founder Chairman Robin Gill built up a wide range of support for the scheme in the public and private sectors, both financial and in the form of pro bono help. He was knighted by The Queen in 2010. Kieran Poynter, lately Chairman and Senior Partner of Price Waterhouse Coopers, took over as Chairman in May 2010. Kieran's other appointments include non-executive director roles at BAT plc, Nomura and F & C Asset Management.
